The title of this blog is my homage to a writer and a journalist, a man considered by many to be the conscience of his generation, Eric Blair aka George Orwell - his crystal clear prose, his felicity of language, his incisive grasp of contemporary issues. It strives as language as a clear pane of glass and this blog is an attempt, perhaps deeply inadequate, in that direction.

Ain't kiddin'
All the students at Luolang Elementary School, a yellow-and-orange concrete structure off a winding mountain road in southern China, know the key rules: Do not run in the halls. Take your seat before the bell rings. Raise your hand to ask a question.
And oh, yes: Salute every passing car on your way to and from school.
And there's more where this came from.
Ah and in several schools in the US, biology teachers are reprimanded if they teach evolution.
ReplyDeleteBTW: In the small neighborhood where I live, all neighbors wave at passing cars! That's one of the pleasant little things that induced us to buy a house here.
